Jacquie Gardy
U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Content Development Editor, English Language Programs
Washington, DC
I work in the field of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. at the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in the Office of English Language Programs. I currently serve as the Content Development Editor, where I develop and curate open educational resources for English language teachers and students worldwide and lead a team of 13 virtual consultants working on content for print and digital publications as well as social media. Before working at State, I was an English Language Fellow in Novi Sad, Serbia, through the State Department’s English Language Fellow Program, and was a high school ESOL teacher and community college ESL teacher. My interests are in comics and graphic novels for English language learning and teaching, design thinking and human-centered design, creative thinking, educational technology, leadership, motivation, and management for success.
I'm looking forward to discussing how comics can help teach English, as part of the State Department's panel at @Comic_Con! Join us on Saturday, July 20th at 3:30 PM in room 24ABC.
